The system
isn't fair.
We fix that.

"No school adequately prepares aspiring medics for what lies ahead. So we decided to take matters into our own hands."

Getting into medical school is one of the most competitive processes in education. The UCAT, the personal statement, the MMI — each is a high-stakes hurdle that schools simply don't prepare students for.

1-2-1 Medics was built to change that. We recruit only the UK's finest medical undergraduates — tutors who have performed in the top 1%, secured offers from the country's most prestigious medical schools, and know exactly what admissions panels are looking for. Not because they read about it — because they lived it.

This isn't generic tutoring. This is the edge that levels the playing field.

★★★★★

"The UCAT coaching was exceptional. My score went from band 3 to band 1 after six weeks. My tutor broke down every subtest in a way no book or YouTube video ever could — because she'd scored in the top 1% herself."

★★★★★

"Three full MMI mock circuits before my real interviews. By the third I was actually enjoying it. I got offers from two of my four choices — I genuinely don't think that happens without 1-2-1 Medics."

★★★★★

"My personal statement tutor had been through Oxbridge admissions herself. She knew exactly what they were looking for. My statement went from generic to genuinely compelling after just two sessions."

UCAT

How to score in the top 1% of the UCAT

Most students revise for the UCAT the wrong way. Here's the strategy that separates band 1 scorers from everyone else.

Personal statement

What medical school admissions tutors actually look for

Your personal statement has one job. Most fail at it. Here's exactly what admissions tutors want to see.

MMI

The MMI demystified: walk in confident, walk out with an offer

The Multiple Mini Interview terrifies most applicants. Here's a complete breakdown of how to prepare properly.

Gap year

Gap year before medicine: does it help or hurt your application?

Taking a year out divides opinion. Here's the honest answer — and how to make a gap year work in your favour.

University choice

How to choose the right medical schools for you

With 33 UK medical schools and only four UCAS choices, picking the right universities is one of the most consequential decisions of your application.

Work experience

Work experience for medical school: what actually counts

Not all work experience is equal. Here's what admissions tutors genuinely value — and how to reflect on it compellingly.

Frequently asked
questions

UCAT preparation should begin 6–8 weeks before your test date with structured, daily practice across all five subtests. Focus on timed practice from day one, review every mistake in detail, and work with a tutor who has scored in the top 1% to learn the strategies that actually move the needle. Cramming in the final two weeks rarely works — consistent preparation over a longer period is what produces band 1 scores.
Medical schools want to see genuine clinical insight through thoughtful reflection on work experience (not just description), intellectual curiosity that extends beyond the A-level curriculum, and non-academic qualities — empathy, resilience, communication — demonstrated through specific examples rather than just listed. The strongest statements are precise, personal, and leave no room for generic filler.
MMI preparation requires understanding what each station type is testing, building a structured thinking framework for scenarios, developing a solid grounding in medical ethics (the four principles and how to apply them), and completing multiple full mock MMI circuits under timed conditions. Reading about MMIs helps — but only practising under real conditions changes outcomes.
The majority of UK medical schools use the UCAT as part of their selection process, including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Dundee, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Hull York, Keele, King's College London, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Queen Mary, Queen's Belfast, Sheffield, Southampton, and St Andrews, among others. Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial use their own selection tests. Always check individual university requirements for the current cycle as these can change.
A gap year is neither inherently helpful nor harmful — what matters is what you do with it and how you present it. A year with substantive clinical experience, meaningful personal development, and a clear narrative can genuinely strengthen an application. A year that cannot be accounted for purposefully raises questions. If you are planning a gap year, build it around two or three clear objectives from the start.
